Human trafficking, otherwise known as modern slavery, involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act against the will of the person trafficked.
Every day, in every country in the world ?, human traffickers exploit people for profit. The poor and the vulnerable are most at risk. Over 70% of detected trafficking victims are women and girls, while nearly one third are children.
Theme of the years World Day Against Trafficking in Person is
“Victims’ voices lead the way”.
This year’s theme puts victims of human trafficking at the centre of the campaign and will highlight the importance of listening to and learning from survivors of human trafficking. The campaign portrays survivors as key actors in the fight against human trafficking .
